I figured I'd jump right to the newest piece of the suite, the WaveEditor sound-editing app. One minor annoyance: the number of upsell popups and graphics during installation. I'd complained that you couldn't pick in the last go-round of the suite, so this is a change I'm happy to note. And now you can choose which apps you want to install. CyberLink's system is closer to that of Nero 9 Reloaded as is its letting you simply choose any of the 10 included apps by name, or bypass PowerStarter altogether and choose any app from the Windows Start menu.ĬyberLink's suite still installs faster than the competition's-it takes about 20 minutes on a 2GHz laptop. The heart system is good, though I prefer Roxio's method of presenting buttons on the home screen based on your usage. Hitting the heart next to any of these choices adds them to your Favorites, which you can access from the big heart icon among the main choices. Clicking any of these fills the window with sub-choices, like Make an Audio DVD under Music, or Capture Video if you choose Video. A clear, simple choice of Music, Movie, Data, Photo, Video, and Copy and Backup get you started. CyberLink's version makes finding what you need a snap. The newly streamlined black PowerStarter start screen is less cluttered than the main UI screens of Roxio Creator 2010 ($99.99, ) and Nero 9 Reloaded ($99.99 list, ). These updates, along with the suite's excellent video editing, graphics card acceleration for faster performance, and a consistent modern UI across all modules, keep CyberLink at the top of the media editing and playing pile. It's also been updated with a spiffy new starter interface and Blu-ray playback in its Ultra version.
